Illustrator Event Poster

For this personal design project, I created an informational event poster based on a waterski and wakeboarding event hosted by our UC Davis club team. First, I researched the background of the UC Davis Waterski and Wakeboard Team. They call themselves the “unicorns” and wear pink to meets, so I wanted the poster to reflect the team’s bright and colorful persona. The skis that they use tend to be very 80s retro, so I wanted the poster to reflect that nostalgia as well. These considerations fueled many of my final design decisions including the rainbow geometric patterns as well as the funky combinations of typography. Working with a variety of effects in the software facilitated the discovery of many bright and colorful, yet still cohesive combinations that are unique and eye-catching. The result shows evidence of consideration on many layers, including the typography, graphic effects, and color scheme to create a composition that feels both nostalgic and futuristic for this new generation of skiers.

This project provided an opportunity for me to further practice my skills in Adobe Illustrator where I could work with textures, gradients, and other interesting effects, while detailed choices in layering and color were also taken when considering this project.
