Illustrator Typeface Study

For this UC Davis design project, students were to create an informational poster based on a typeface that we chose. First, we researched the background and story behind the typeface and then sketched mock-ups which we then scanned to illustrate digitally. Importing many original works into the digital software-enabled easy re-creation of the design by tracing using a variety of digital tools. This made it simple to create many iterations to choose from as well. The select typefaces that were chosen created many distinct styles between the colors, information, and layout of the posters throughout the class’ work. Exploring a variety of new tools in the software facilitated the discovery of many cohesive combinations. The result shows evidence of proficiency in Illustrator tools and knowledge of the selected typeface.

This project provided an excellent opportunity to practice Adobe Illustrator tools such as grid lines, textures, and other effects. My skills in layering were also strengthened after working on this project. My research on the typeface aided my creative process as well and informed my choice in colors and layout.
