My position at UC Davis’ official campus newspaper was a fast-paced adventure to say the very least.
The California Aggie releases an issue every Thursday, which means this role quickly became a constant in my week—specifically Mondays and Tuesdays. Stories came in on Sunday at midnight and two revisions later, we would submit our final InDesign drafts for print on Tuesdays at noon.
My role as a Layout Artist was arguably been my biggest teacher of consistency and time management. It forced me to work quickly, but with accuracy in order to adhere to the design style guide set for the entire team. Even when I was deep into the academic quarter; midterms and school projects making things feel like they were falling apart, the grid and design standards held me together.
